  Jun 29,  · If you haven't already set up Two-Step Authentication for Xero then you need to seriously look into this. Speak to your accountant or IT department, or even just google and there is a step by step. to Xero will be easy and not require the use of a smart phone. These are the main steps we will work through on the following pages: 1. Set up your authentication app. 2. Get a key from your Xero account – this provides a key to connect with the authentication app so that when the app is used – even only once – the two are connected. Still in your Xero Account settings, under Two-step authentication click Setup. Open the authenticator app on your new phone. Click the plus button to add your Xero account. A screen like this will appear, prompting you to add a key. Go back to Xero and copy the key. With Xero, there are no limits on the number of users you can invite into an organisation or client file. We suggest inviting new users instead of sharing your login credentials.

Please visit Xero Central for a step by step guide and search 'add a new user to your organisation' so there's an audit trail of access and data changes. It is ridiculous to force multi-factor identification. Also, heaven forbid I chose to leave my phone at home during the work day to remove distractions and increase productivity. If you can't install apps on your work computer yourself, ask your IT team to install an authenticator app for you, either on your computer or your organisation's server. There are a number of authenticator apps available, such as our recommended app Authy.

Alternatively, you can use the steps below to do this. Click Set up multi-factor authentication to get started. If you're not yet required to set up MFA but want to get started, do this while you're logged in. Click your initials or profile image at the top right of the screen and select Account.

Under Additional Security , next to Multi-factor authentication , click Set up. This will take you to the start of the MFA process.

When prompted to choose an authenticator app, select Use my own app. In a separate tab on your web browser, go to the Authy website and follow the steps to download Authy to your desktop.
